Meet the trainer

J.R. Henderson is the owner and operator of The Cognitive Cat, LLC, a constructional behavioral modification service, specializing in enhancing understanding, communication and relationally between felines and their guardians by effectively minimizing aversive behavioral interactions of common occurrence, including: urinating and defecating outside of the litter box, scratching inappropriate surfaces including furniture, aggression expressed towards humans or other species, introductions of all sorts, medication administration and helping to figure out all those little quirks the cats in our lives get up to, from counter-surfing to attacking our feet at 3 AM. 

   J.R.'s a proponent of positive (added) reinforcement and least intrusive based approaches that offer choice and control to both human and feline, setting all parties up for success. A graduate of the, Companion Animal Sciences Institute, J.R has over 3,000 hours working with cats in shelter/rescue settings and private residences. A passionate supporter of  TNR and working toward a no-euthanasia nation (and then world), his primary focuses in feline welfare and education reside in cooperative care husbandry, the power of play and scheduled feedings, using clicker training to communicate and environmental and species enrichment. J.R. lives in Rochester, NY with his amazing clowder of Condie, Durga & Poe.
