Who Am I?

Hello there and mega meows! I'm James Henderson, owner and operator of The Cognitive Cat, LLC.The Cognitive Cat, LLC. is a behavioral consulting service for cats and their people. In-person consultations are available in the Rochester, NY region - and virtual consulting to the rest of the world. 

A Certified Professional

I am a certified feline behavior technologist (FBST from The Companion Animal Sciences Institute) and registered nurse bringing over 20 years of working with cats in rescue and residential settings. 

Reinforcement-based

As a certified behavior professional, my goal is to increase understanding and communication between cats and their people to deepen trust and relationship. 


The Cognitive Cat, LLC uses positive-reinforcement approaches based on the principles of applied behavior science and based on the ethics of the LIFE (least inhibitive, functionally effective) model.
